Never Again is – When? The racist roots of modern Christian theology
£8.99
Christian antisemitism? Isn’t that an oxymoron? It should be, but sadly, it is not. This book aims to raise awareness among Christians of the anti-Judaic bias embedded in Christian thought, and of how this can negatively, though often unconsciously, affect our perception of Jewish people. Current theological perceptions of Judaism in the Western church are considerably affected by the racialised biblical scholarship and theology of the 19th and 20th centuries, including the German Christian theology formulated under the influence of Nazi racist ideology. Although there is ample academic material exploring this problem there is little, if any, directed at the ordinary “people in the pews”, who are unlikely to read academic works, and consequently may uncritically absorb such erroneous views when encountered through the discourse of the church.
The author hopes that this book might help 21st-century Christians, and especially clergy and pastors, to become aware of the poisoned roots from which anti-Judaic rhetoric and discourse grow and to recognise these sources when found in current Christian discourse, to help in changing Christian perceptions of Judaism and Jewish people so that these causes of Christian antisemitism may be exposed and addressed.
