I have been a Christian for over 45 years and served in several churches across a wide variety of roles, including small group leader, worship leader, Deacon, Elder and Pastor. I have been married to my wife Angela for over 38 years and we have 3 sons and 4 grandchildren. Over these years I have sat under several pastors, all of whom have given good, solid biblical teaching that has enhanced my walk with God and given me a firm biblical understanding and foundation. I have attended numerous conferences and seminars and attended a 2 yr theology and leadership course, all of which has built my life with Jesus and enabled me to have a firm grasp of the scriptures which I hope is reflected in this book.

 

Just Published! From Darkness to light – Nigel’s Story by Andy Bates, who delivers an excellent account of the life experiences of Nigel.

The book tells the story of Nigel Williams. Born into a one parent family and who’s Mum suffered from paranoid schizophrenia. Taken into care at 6 years of age Nigel sought solace in solvents, drugs and alcohol. Falling into a life of crime from his early teens he inevitably ended up in prison aged 17.

So started the cycle of re-offending which was to last for over a decade. During this period Nigel served time in 18 different prisons and escaped from three of them. Nigel developed a violent personality and began to suffer with severe mental health issues including self harm and breakdowns. Seeing no way out of this bleak existence he attempted to take his own life. Whilst in prison and in the blackest pit of hopelessness and despair he began to hear about a God who loved him so much he sent his only son to die for him. Nigel had always believed there to be no forgiveness for someone like him that had committed such heinous acts.

Despite his horrendous start in life Nigel is now an amazing ambassador for God, handing out leaflets containing his life story on the city streets and talking to anyone about how God rescued him.

The future that Nigel Williams was facing was one seemingly without hope. Taken into care from a young age and stuck in a cycle of crime and prison, plagued with such serious issues as mental health problems, depression and self harm, the  future looked so bleak that the only way out appeared to be suicide. But  something, or rather someone, happened to Nigel that changed his whole life and gave him a future and a hope.
