Christian Parallels

Just published, Trevor Summerlin’s book, Christian Parallels, Working Towards Spiritual Maturity Through the Medium of Skiing.

A minister of the gospel with a prophetic calling. Have been a Pastor for 14 years being a general overseer for New Covenant Chapel Ministries in Manchester( United Kingdom) and Africa. I hold a Bachelor Honours degree in Contextual Theology and a Ministerial certificate ordained Reverend.

This book draws on my experience as an internationally qualified Ski Instructor and Coach and my time as a Baptist Pastor and Bible Teacher. I look at each aspect of downhill skiing in order to see what comparisons, or parallels, can be made with a person’s journey towards maturity in the Christian life. I have attempted to use a similar system to the one Jesus used to get His message across, by taking the everyday things people may encounter in the skiing world and applying the ‘parable’ principle to them.

My time as a Baptist minister and a Christian Counsellor have also enabled me to identify lots of similarities in the challenges and the obstacles that people face on their Christian journey. I have therefore included many personal observations and assessments of how people might benefit from facing and dealing with these sorts of issues.

I hope this book will encourage the avoidance of any kind of complacency as people seek to move forward in the Christian life and that it will help them look beyond what can be seen merely in the physical dimension. We are, after all, spiritual beings, although we live for the moment, in a physical body and relate to the world around us through our physical senses.

The book begins by assessing how essential it is for each person to develop a completely different approach to the way they see themselves, and everything around them. It then goes on to look at the various elements that contribute to a person’s experience as they progress into the world of skiing, including the development of specific skiing skills.

The Gift

Just published Ann Nunn’s book (assisted by Liz Leach Murphy), The Gift!

The Gift takes a refreshing approach to painting an honest picture of the raw realities of being a Family Carer based on my first-hand experience, and explores how my Christian faith has been my lifeline and supported me through challenging times, whilst featuring practical teaching methods that can unlock the potential of a child living with learning difficulties. We have researched the market and have not found any other publication that features the range of issues that we overcame as a family; a son with a rare disability, a husband with significant mental health issues, home teaching, poverty and homelessness.

A qualified and former nurse, I have spent the last 45 years Caring for my son, Simon who lives with autism and Cri Du Chat Syndrome. My Caring role included teaching Simon how to read and home-schooling him in a variety of subjects after his school said he wouldn’t be able to be educated. My position as a Family Carer was a dual one, caring for Simon whilst also caring for my late husband, Peter who lived with Schizophrenia and, in recent years, dementia.
A lifelong practicing Christian, I have always sought out a local church no matter where we have lived. These church communities and God have been my refuge and strength during testing and emotional times.
For me, the biggest source of strength, love and inspiration has been the Lord Jesus. It is my Faith in the Lord that has spurred me on to participate in campaigning, initiatives and Caring groups to help improve the lives of my fellow Carers. I have also had the privilege of writing and publishing articles about my experiences educating Simon in magazines and publications related to Caring, for example in The Nursing Times and Community Living.

Just published, Sharing the Faith, by Ali Ansarifar. This book re-visits some important concepts in the bible which are central to the Judo-Christian faith and important in a proper understanding of God’s revelation and his expectations of us.

Sharing the Faith covers these topics: the key message of the Gospel of Christ, God’s plan for advancing humanity, the narrow path to salvation, man’s relationship with God, God’s mercy and judgment on mankind, and understanding two millennia of the Judo-Christian history.

The heart of the father

The Heart of a Father

Just published, Bill Thompson’s book, The Heart of a Father.

The book is the culmination of a heart-felt longing to see fathers in the faith arise. My experience in working with Christian men has highlighted that many can come to faith, but few embark upon the adventure their Heavenly Father has in store for them.

Bill Thompson was born in Edinburgh and, having spent some years in banking, he moved into social work. Over the following 25 years, Bill occupied a number of roles in residential care and some senior management. From there, he was invited to the part of the pastoral team in a large church on the outskirts of Edinburgh. One of his roles was in developing a ministry among men, enabling them to find their identity in Christ. As the work developed, God revealed to Bill what it is to be a father in the faith.

In each chapter of the book it reveals different facets of the Father Heart of God, and how we can overtime look to embrace and even embody these. By doing so we can leave a lasting legacy.

loneliness versus being alone

Loneliness Versus Being Alone

Just published! Loneliness versus Being Alone, the Journey from Isolation to Beautiful Solitude by Julie Porter.

Over 4 million people in England identified themselves as lonely. This book explores in the Bible, what it says about the topic and how it can help you overcome loneliness and be content in solitude.

Split in two parts, the book helpfully dissects:

Part One – Loneliness: What is its definition? Why do people succumb to it? How do we overcome it?

Part Two – Being Alone: What does ‘being alone’ mean? Is there really any good reason for choosing solitude?

julie porterJulie Porter has always had a deep love of writing and have been writing poems, short stories and songs for over 30 years. On many occasions performed poetry in public and songs  sung by her local church. So why write this book? There has always been a driving desire to put her thoughts onto paper and has many unpublished material. However, after many years of research on the topic of loneliness and solitude as well as an ongoing general observation of others and finally her own personal experiences, she feels now is the right time to launch out and have her work published.
