These are the stories of some of the many unknown people who were there during those momentous years when Jesus was born grew up, taught, healed, suffered, died and rose again. They were people who knew his family, who were in the crowds and who listened, watched, went home and told others. Some continued to doubt, or could not accept or even try to understand the message of this man Jesus. But many became believers and went on to tell their stories.

Writing has always been part of my life, between the demands and joys of work and bringing up as family. As a speech and language therapist I have a number of professional publications, as well as poetry and plays. Mary Marriott has just published her latest book, Do Not Stop the Little Children about Christians living in a dangerous and harsh world.

Mary believes we need to take a deep and honest look at ourselves and see if we are preventing our children from being blessed by Jesus. Do we stop them by our worldly ways? My Kingdom is Not of This World began just as ‘thoughts’, which she believes are from the Holy Spirit. Mary noted them down over a period of about a year, with weeks in between each one. She then felt to combine them under ‘one umbrella’, and in so doing, this thought led her to find a publisher. Hopefully these short writings will send out messages that all Christians need to bear in mind. During the time spent writing them, Mary felt encouraged herself, and more determined to live as she is called to live. Perhaps we might find some of God’s requests for righteous living quite demanding and wonder if we are able to do all that He asks! But as St. Paul says in Philippians 4:13 ‘ I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.’ May we all take this thought on board.
