maid for a purpose - christian books

Extract from Maid for a Purpose

Maid for a Purpose by Carol Stanley is a beautiful story about a young girl, living in the biblical age of the prophets who is captured by bandits and taken to a strange land.

Here is an extract from the book:

Chapter One – Humble Beginnings

Roza heaved a big sigh and shuddered slightly. She had woken up suddenly with an uneasy feeling that something awful was about to happen. In the darkness she strained her ears for unusual noises, but all was quiet. She was used to the sound of the night insects and an occasional screech owl; cats and dogs were often vocal too. It was footsteps or creaking floorboards that she was hoping not to hear. As she lay there, feeling anxious, her mind wandered back over the events of the last few weeks. Groups of Syrian bandits had been crossing into Israel raiding rural dwellings and destroying crops, also taking livestock. Some shepherds had been killed defending their flocks of sheep and goats. Her parents had forbidden her to wander alone in the fields in case of kidnap.

Roza was thirteen years of age. She was a beautiful girl, the gentle curves of her body beginning to form. Long black hair, deep brown eyes and a smooth olive skin were her main attractions. Clad in her long dresses, with a veil about her head, she was often seen carrying water from the well, feeding the goats and sweeping the courtyard of her house. Her friends envied her slim figure and small features: a curved mouth that always seemed to be smiling; a finely shaped nose; eyes that made many boys hearts melt. She had a quiet manner about her; slightly shy she was always polite but could be quite outspoken if necessary. This sometimes got her into trouble as in her culture females were not encouraged to express opinions, especially in the presence of men. She thought about things a lot and had ideas of what she wanted to do with her life. Once, Roza had spoken out in front of her parents.

“Why can’t I do all the things that boys do?” she had complained. One look from her father had silenced her.
“Be content with your life girl,” he had said sternly. “God has made you a woman so be glad and do not moan!”

God Can By Tanya Lord - christian books

Extract from Building Our Faith Walk

This epidemic has shattered many of our dreams and hopes for 2020 but we know that God is in control despite coronavirus. Building Our Faith Walk by Janet Wilson encourages us to connect and find meaning in our experiences, through poetry. God inspired Janet to write these poems to bring hope and encouragement to all those that have suffered one way or another. The proceeds of this book will be donated to the NHS (National Health Service) in the UK for the remarkable work they have done being in the frontline.

1. THE VALLEY OF TEARS

This, at that time, was a cry to God to
help me through the pain of bereavement
after being denied access to my mother
and two children who themselves had
to adhere to the rules of the church as regards
complete separation from the world,
believing, as I once did, that their church’s
demands were justifiable and that complete
separation was the only way to please Christ.

THE VALLEY OF TEARS
I stand in the valley, the valley of tears,
Calling my God, who’s the Ancient of years,
He say’s I’m his child, it will all work for good,
And all in his presence will be understood,
Reflecting life’s sorrows one day will I see,
This road that I tread God had planned it for me?

It’s hard to hold on when my faith is so weak,
Strengthen me now, Lord, your presence I seek,
O God of all ages, O God of my past,
O God of my future on thee I am cast,
Bring joy in my darkness and peace in this storm,
Hold me and keep me with hope for the dawn.

My Shepherd and Saviour, my Guide and my God,
Let me bend to your will, your staff and your rod,
Bring light to my way as I walk through the dark,
With a sense of your love that will lighten my heart,
Let me feel, let me know that your still at my side,
Let your peace overcome all this hurt that’s inside.

Shine a light in my darkness; bring peace to my pain,
Show me your presence; come closer again,
Roll back the clouds that your face may appear,
Or a touch of your hand to prove you are near,
A beacon of hope, a word from your throne,
Prove I’m wrapped in your arms and I don’t walk alone.

Help me to trust you, to trust in your love,
To feel you are near not remote far above,
Though waters are raging they will not consume,
Through rejection and sadness, please, see I reach home,
Show me your promises, trusted and sure,
Hold me and keep me and help me endure.

Then let me praise through the height of the storm,
Though mingled with sadness let joy be reborn,
Let me walk through this valley accepting your will,
Knowing you love me and walk with me still,
Help me remember, each crisis in life,
Your presence, Lord Jesus, will always suffice.

freedom for fear - christian books

Extract from Freedom From Fear

If you want to break free from fear read Freedom from Fear by Kennedy R. Tajudeen who delves into how to break free from the bondage that Fear has over our lives; and to live in God’s truth!

Here is an extract from the book:

On January 19, 2010 while Ghana was enjoying her usual atmosphere of peace and tranquility, suddenly, there was a rumor of imminent earthquakes. Within a twinkle of an eye the news had spread around the streets, corners and communities of our nation. Everybody was engulfed with the fear of death, loss of goods and property. Nobody found comfort anymore in the comfort of their homes. Most Christians left their homes and resolved to live in their church premises to escape the devastation of the earthquakes. Those believers did not realize that safety and protection from the troubles of life is not in any church building but in Jesus Christ and in Him alone.
“He that dwelleth in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust. Surely, he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence. He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler. Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day; Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday” (Psalms 91:1-6).
These verses of scripture clearly explain the truth about the PLACE of safety and protection. There is a place called the SECRET PLACE of the Most High God. In that secret place, God provides safety, deliverance, protection, and security for those who trust in HIM. That SECRET PLACE is Jesus Christ who is the embodiment of truth (Psalms 91:4). David said, “God’s truth shall be his shield and buckler; that truth also represents God’s word. His word, the Bible, is the only truth.”
“Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me” (John 14:6).
Jesus openly declared in this verse that He is the truth and not a truth.

Straightforward Christianity - christian books

Extract from Straightforward Christianity

Straightforward Christianity by Nigel Scotland writes the plain truth for the plain man! How can following Jesus affect your life? Taken from the authors experiences, who has written 23 other books.

CHAPTER 1
A Founder with Universal Appeal

Of all the founders of the world’s religions Jesus has a universal appeal. This fact is powerfully captured in Salvador Dali’s famous painting Christ of St John of the Cross. It depicts Jesus with his arms outstretched and looking down over the entire world. The picture demonstrates Jesus’ deep compassion and concern for the entire human race. This is the truth so profoundly expressed in John’s gospel that ‘God so loved the world that he gave us his only begotten son that whoever believes in him should not perish but have everlasting life’. Today  the  followers  of  Jesus  are  numbered in billions and they are found on every continent in the world.

In 1971 two clergymen were standing together on a New York City Street corner and looking up at the billboards outside one of the theatres. One said to the other, ‘Do you know that show grossed two million dollars’? The other said: ‘Where did we miss out’? The show was Andrew Lloyd Webber’s rock opera Jesus Christ Superstar! Two million dollars was a huge sum at the time. The show’s popularity was testimony to the universal appeal that Jesus still holds for so many in more recent times. This was followed in 1973 by Stephen Schwartz’s Broadway musical Godspell with a parade of much loved songs including ‘Prepare ye the Way of the Lord’. It’s not just the musicals which have proved to be so popular, epic films such as Franco Ziffirelli’s 1977 Life of Jesus were feted in many of the world’s  countries. Mel Gibson’s 2004 The Passion of the Christ shattered the box office  records. – Extract from Straightforward Christianity

Parenting Apprenticeship - christian books

Extract from To God Be The Glory

Have you ever heard God calling you to do something and you do it? To God be the Glory by Keith & Pauline Evans is a book about what happens when you answer God’s call.

KEITH’S TESTIMONY

My testimony is all about God’s great love, mercy, grace and patience with a lost soul. This first story is of a change, from knowing of Jesus (through scripture) to knowing Him personally.

I was brought up in an Anglican church and can’t remember a time when I didn’t go to church, starting as a young boy in Sunday School and later maturing to ‘proper’ church services. I was confirmed at eleven years of age. I’d always believed that Jesus was God’s Son, so getting confirmed was a natural step. I was becoming a member of the Anglican Church! After confirmation I helped as server in the sanctuary, cut the grass and stoked the boiler for the aged vicar – all jobs I enjoyed doing. I started playing piano at 13. A year later sat on the organ stool and was hooked! I became an organist and choirmaster at the age of seventeen. – Extract from To God be the Glory, Keith & Pauline Evans

About the Authors

Keith: Church man from Sunday school to 34 years of age. I have always loved church. Server in the sanctuary after confirmation, lifelong organist from age 14. Gave my life to Jesus at age 34 after God audibly called me to ‘More’ over two years. Baptised in the Spirit as I gave my life to Jesus. The book tells of God’s grace, call and direction over the following 32 years.

Pauline: I can’t remember a time when I didn’t love Jesus as my parents were always very involved in church leadership. From an early age I knew that Jesus was special and that He loved every part of me. I became a teacher and I was truly blessed as I loved being with children. Yes, there have been times when I struggled with accepting that I was good enough to receive His love, but when I look back I can see that God has always walked with me in the valleys and on the mountaintops and there have many times when I have been amazed how our great God has used me in the big and little things of life.

Publish Books

Editing or Proofreading?

So you have written your book and are ready to get editing, proofread and published. We help first time or experienced authors convey their message, knowledge or testimony to others about Jesus Christ.

With most of our publishing packages, we accept work that is already proof read or edited, but you may feel that your grammar or punctuation is not good enough – that is where we have professionals to edit your book and give tips on how to make your book fit for the retail market, just leave it to us.

What is the difference between editing and proofreading?

Editing and proofreading are different steps in the process of revising a text. Editing comes first, and can involve major changes to content, structure and language, usually done by authors themselves, while a professional editor makes the final improvements to grammar and style.

Proofreading is the final stage of checking before it is published. Our team focuses on correcting any spelling mistakes, punctuation errors, tidy up the dialogue formatting – and generally get it presentable and ready for printing. This is only available with our Platinum package but our editors are dedicated to making sure your book is 100% professional for publishing. We provide a final review of your manuscript before printing.

For you to see corrections, comments or suggestions, we employ MS Word Track Changes on your document. We’ll also provide you with a clean copy (a ready-to-use file). So when submitting your manuscript we only accept it in a Word format. We cannot edit pdf(s). For ease, submit in doc or docx.

Tips for writers
Before you get to the final stage of proofreading make sure you have thoroughly revised and edited your work. Only proofread once you are happy with the final draft, rather than deciding to take out whole paragraphs later on.

Chapter One – School Days

Just like in Bill Bryson’s A Short History of Nearly Everything, I am going to have to skim over some parts of my childhood and adolescence just so that we are not here all day.

I was born in November, 1982, the same year Michael Jackson released his Thriller album, Channel 4 was launched, the film E.T came out and everyone was listening to The jam or The Human League. I was born in Bradford, at the BRI to Caroline and James Smith.  We lived in Wrose, in the first house mum and dad bought after they got married, it was perched on a steep hill with wonderful views over Shipley. My brother Alexander came along twenty months later and we moved to Baildon, a small village on the outskirts of Bradford nicely nestled on the edge of the Moors, and that’s where I spent my childhood. – Extract from Flawless, Victoria Kalzyka

i do, i do, i do, live always wins - christian books

Extract from I DO, I DO, I DO, LOVE ALWAYS WINS

Experiencing ups and downs in your marriage? Marriage in general has highs and lows. In I do, I do, I do, Love always wins, by Patricia Gault, is a love story that has twists and turns! It is a personal testimony about how God restored Pat’s marriage.

I Do; I Do; I Do falls into the testimony book genre. It is a memoir, a powerful story of love and forgiveness in the midst of betrayal and heartache. It is written primarily from a wife’s perspective. The strength of this book is the story itself of marriage restoration – all the more amazing because it is true.
This book is intended for those who find their marriages are in trouble, but who still love their spouses, and wish to find an alternative route to the finality of divorce …  also if divorce has already taken place – this book is for you. And this book is to give hope to those who are in despair – whether you are people of great faith, of little faith, or of no faith at all.
I am still confident of this:
I will see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living. Wait for the LORD. Be strong and take heart. Wait for the Lord. (Ps. 27:13-14)
These verses have been marked in my Bible over eleven times within a period of twenty years.
God’s promises are worth waiting for, even when His timetable doesn’t match our own expectation or desires.
